Heal Yourself
Small steps make for huge changes. It really all starts with a single step. As we start May, Spring begins and all new things have a chance to bloom. We are blooming flowers in our practice and through it, we discover the possibility for change. How do we create lasting change in our life? The answer is more simple than we think. Small changes. In my last Yoga Therapy Training, we learned on what to remove and what to replace in for healing through yoga and Ayurveda, its sister Science of self healing. When we discover what is creating suffering, stress and blockage in our life, we are able to find our starting point. This is huge. Life-changing, even. It’s not a quick fix, but it’s the best start. Through yoga we heal ourselves and restore our balance...
Read MoreApril’s Truth
I thought this was a cute title to this month’s article, as it goes cute with April fools and I also have a workshop end of the month, called Speak your Truth in Panama city. It takes courage to change. Old habits, indeed, die hard. My practice of yoga has been a tremendous help in seeing me through the transitions in my life. Since my return from yoga therapy training, I have been often thinking about the idea idea of simplicity and well-being. It’s something which has not only inspired me for years, but is a goal of mine and the work that I do. As a yoga teacher, I always strive to stay connected to myself, so I can work with others the best to my ability. You have to heal yourself, before you can even as so, help another. In yoga therapy,...
Read Morecut your losses
It takes a long time, before we can understand the blessings and lessons in suffering. It’s not easy to embrace the difficulty and loss, life throws our way. With time and experience, though, we learn the art and value of cutting our losses, or gaining from what we think we’ve lost. The art of shedding the tears, layers and pain from our past. Recently, I’ve begun to see and feel the changes I have been cultivating for some time. In Bo Forbes Yoga for Emotional Balance, she talks about how change happens silently, since it takes a while for our consciousness to get it. Makes sense. It’s all about the process, as we know. This really cool clinical psychologist, Yoga teacher and therapist, has shed light on how even though talk therapy is...

II.42 From contentment and benevolence of consciousness comes supreme happiness. Yoga Sutra of Patanjali Indifference isn’t always a negative thing. Sometimes, it’s vital. We can be mislead by what we believe, is our intuition. To know ourselves, takes hard, sincere work, and as we access our intuition, we start to practice what we call in yoga, Satya. Our Truth. Intuiton is a skill, not a preference, which we develop and innately hold, but have to dig deep and uncover its essence. When we are practicing asana or any other form of practice, we tend to go with what feels good, but if we are really doing our work, we begin to see the wholeness of our experience and include a practice we know as upeksanam, or equanimity....
Read Morefree, wherever you are
I’ve recently started leading Yoga Retreats in The Peninsula of Azuero in Panama with my friend Kathy. We are currently hosting them in The Azuero Tree House, a charming house near Pedasi. We’ve both lived here and return often. It’s a one of a kind place, where simplicity meets tradition, as well as having a beautiful flow. I love it, and find inspiration in it everytime I go back down south. Its striking beauty is so simple, yet so powerful. The energy in the Peninsula is simply Incredible. It’s amazing to find a place where you feel truly free and clear, just like my Dad feels in his farm in Pacora. You just know, he says. Detachment is essential, when it comes to our home, ironically enough. Everytime I go back, I discover something new...
Read MoreEveryday Intention
As the New Year approaches, we suddenly find ourselves more present with intent. We wonder, what happened to the rest of the year? Seems like we put so much weight, and expectation to our intentions, that often, we forget to work for them. That’s right, you got to nourish your intention, all the time. Like a plant, it needs nourishment to grow and change. Intentions need follow up, all the time. We’ll probably need to revisit some of them, a lot. No attachment, just refinement. Like a good friend, your intentions, practice and purpose, need support from time to time. Setbacks will come. Difficulty will arise, and tests will appear. You’ll want to forget. Yoga reminds you, and your practices can always bring you back. At least for me, it does....
